Habitat: Marine, reef-associated. Found on sandy bottoms around boulders or in sandy corridors in patch reefs. Depth range 3 - 320 m. Natural History Notes: Piscivore. Sits with his fore ends propped up by the ventral fins, ready to bury themselves in the sand if disturbed. Rests also on hard bottom of reefs. Characteristics: Dark spot at upper end of gill cover. Yellowish pale lines on the side, turning to yellow spots when they pass through dark areas. Dark markings crossing the back, vertical on the sides.
