Habitat: Mature lowland evergreen forests and swamps. May occur up to 800 meters in Costa Rica. Distribution: Southern Mexico to Peru, northern Brazil and Bolivia, Margarita Island in Venezuela, and on Trinidad and Tobago. Natural History Notes: An aerial insectivore. Roosts on the boles of large trees in riparian forests, also just inside the entrance of caves. Folds wings at 45 degree angle to body when roosting. Colonies usually number less than 10, monogamous bonds common, males do not defend roosting territories. Young are born in May and November in Costa Rica, but only in May in Trinidad.
