Habitat: This mourner species will prefer humid forests and second-growth woodland in the lowlands and foothills. Distribution: This species has been reported from southeastern Mexico to northwestern Ecuador. Natural History Notes: The Rufous Mourner is usually found alone and perched on a branch at any tree height. You might hear more than seeing it. Its call is a clear whistle like "wheeeip, wheeer". Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 8 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird is characterized by a uniform rufous brown plumage, with a paler and more orange coloration on the part below.
