Habitat: The Tawny-capped euphonia will be mainly present in foothills. It favors lower growth and borders of humid forests and second-growth woodland habitats. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica to extreme northwestern Colombia Natural History Notes: This euphonia species will be found usually in groups and foraging fairly high tree levels. It is a fairly silent bird. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length of 11 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). The male can be easily recognized by the tawny colored crown present on top of the head. Also, the upperparts, throat and upper chest are all blue and the underparts are yellow. The female looks different and its plumage consists of an olive green coloration on the above and present some rufous coloration but more toward the forecrown and with a paler coloration. The throat and the breast are gray and become more beige toward the belly. Finally, we can disintguish some green coloration on the flanks.
