Adult: Species description based on Walls (1994) and Lotters et al (2007). A small poison frog (13-20 mm). Dorsal: The dorsal surface is black, with a series of longitudinal light (whitish yellow) stripes (Lotters et al 2007). Individuals generally have a middorsal stripe that extends from the snout halfway down the back, additional strips on either side of the dorsum, and a more irregular stripe along the lower portion of the side extending forward to a light lip line (Lotters et al 2007). The upper surfaces of the arms and legs are light, with a stripe extending down their length, from body to elbow or knee (Lotters et al 2007). The lower rear legs are striped or mottled yellowish and black (Lotters et al 2007). Ventral: The belly is bright yellow with black spots or marbling.
