Adult: Species description based on Duellman (2001). Dorsal: Dorsal surface smooth and uniformly green, without any white spots. Ventral: Ventral surface granular and creamy white. Distinguishing characteristics: A. litodryas lacks pigmentation on the hands, feet, thighs and flanks; thus, they appear pinkish-grey in color. Eye: Iris dark red. Lower membrane reticulated with gold. Extremities: Hand and feet fully webbed. Toes with large terminal discs. Egg: One clutch of eggs was observed in Ecuador (Duellman 2001). The green, gelatinous egg mass consisted of approximately 300 eggs deposited on a large leaf (Duellman 2001). Habitat: Humid, lowland rainforest. Ecology: The complete webbing found on the hands and feet of A. litodryas suggests that it is capable of controlling its descent through the air (Dudley et al 2007). Call: A single, low-pitched groan (Duellman 1970). Type locality: "1 kilometer west-southwest of the junction of the Rio Mono and the Rio Tuira, Darien Province, Panama" |
