Dwarf epiphyte; pseudobulbs ovate, 1.5-3 cm long, with 2 or 3 papery bracts at base. Leaves solitary at apex of pseudobulb, elliptic-lanceolate, 8-25 cm long, 1.5-3 cm wide, plicate. Racemes short, few-flowered, pendent, from base of pseudobulb; sepals subequal, 10-17 mm long, 4-8 mm wide, pale yellow; petals orange, 10-15 mm long, 3-6 mm wide; lip concave, orange, with purplish spots, 8-11 mm long, nearly as wide; column 6-8 mm. long, green with broad orange wings. Fruits not seen. Not seen on BCI, but Dressler has collected the pollinia from bees on the island and is certain that the species occurs there. Seasonal behavior uncertain. Costa Rican plants are known to flower in March. Pollinated by Euglossa dodsoni bees (Dressler, 1968a). Costa Rica and Panama. In Panama, known from tropical moist forest on BCI and reported from Colon and the Atlantic slope of central Panama. |
