Description: A shrub with leaning stems and long, hanging branches, looking rather liana-like. Leaves are alternate, compound, always with 4 leaflets. The base of the petiole is swollen, green, and cylindrical.
Reproduction: Flowers are large, light yellow, very conspicuous when they are produced in December and January. Fruits are pods.
Distribution: Scarce in the forest from Barro Colorado south, mostly in natural clearings. Outside the forest, along roads and the forest edge, it is very common; widespread and common in Gamboa and along Pipeline Rd.
Similar Species: The only other species around that has compound leaves with exactly 4 leaflets is LK pri2co Prioria copaifera, LK2 and it is a tall, straight, forest tree with shiny leaves, so the two should never be confused.
