Habitat: Marine, reef-associated. Natural History Notes: Noted to occur in groups of three or four females to one male. Both sexes are known to produce sporadically a mucus envelope at night. Non Territorial. Herbivore, scrap algae from rock and coral. Depth: 3 - 25m Characteristics: Four rows of scales below the eye on the cheek. Large terminal phase males : broad blue to green markins around mouth. Light bar on pectoral fin, caudal lobes prolonged. Gaudily colored with blue, green, rose and orange. Intermediates : drab with a broad wide stripe on lower side.
