Habitat: Marine. Common wherever there are reefs, rocks or corals growing on a limestone base. Depth range 2 - 40 m. Natural History Notes: Non territorial herbivore. Scrapes short algae from compacted sand bottom. May swim in loose aggregations. More a bottom fish than coeruleus. Characteristics: Pale to deep brown, most often olive brown with a bluish cast. Short blue markings radiate from the eye posteriorly and a blue line extends forward and down from the eye. Also has a deep lunate caudal fin with a broad pale margin. Pectoral fins clearish, often with yellow tints. The sheath of the caudal spine is dark.
