Bocas Species Database Habitat: This species is usually found in muddy areas, more especially in red mangrove swamps, often along with fiddler crabs and mangrove crabs. It builds fairly wide burrows. Distribution: This species has been reported from the Western Atlantic Ocean. Characteristics: This large crab species has a carapace of up to 7 cm long. The body is overall oval and there are no teeth on the margins of the carapace. The walking legs are fairly long with an abundance of silky hair. The major claw is usually the one of the right. The color pattern consists of a bluish gray background with reddish purple spots and characteristic purple overtones. |
