Bocas Species Database Habitat: Present in shallow waters, under rocks. Distribution: Found living along the Santa Maria coast line (Caribbean coast of Columbia) in shallow sheltered reef-slopes at depths averaging 14 to 18 meters in depth. Usually found loosely attached to coral or scattered derbies (J.M. Diaz, L.A. Escolar and L.E. Velásquez 1990). Dredged (found dead) in Bahia Almirante, Laguna de Chiriqui, Gulfo de los Moskitos and along the other coast of the Bocas del Toro area (Smith et al. 2005). Characteristics: Caribachlamys sentis has a length of up to 1.5 inches. The wings have unequal sizes. The surface of the animal is composed of several tiny ribs, each covered with tiny scales. The color pattern usually consists of a scarlet red background, but it can also be purple, white or brown. |
