Habitat: This species can live is fairly diverse habitats. It is quite tolerant to differences in salinities and will grow and reproduce optimally between 25-30 degrees. Distribution: This species has been reported from the Caribbean regions, in Central and South America. Its range is affected by water temperature. Natural History Notes: In countries of Central America, the Blue Land Crab is exploited for food, whereas in the United States it is more considered as a pest. Characteristics: An adult crab can grow to over 11 cm. It posesses a carapace that ranges in color from dark blue to different shades of brown-gray. Its shape is similar to that of the genus Uca, with one enlarged cheliped. The juveniles usually have brown carapaces and orange legs. The ovigerous females will show a color more gray or white. Blue Land Crabs are able to walk quite fast. In one evening, they can move over 500 m.
