Habitat: Present in muddy and sandy habitats in the intertidal. It builds a burrow and forms usually large populations. Distribution: This species has been reported from the West Indies to Brazil. Natural History Notes: This species is commercially exploited in Brazil for food, but also for the black pearl it can produce. Characteristics: Anomalocardia brasiliana has a length of 34 mm. The shell has a triangular shape and is inflated. The anterior end is shorter and rounded. The coloration varies from white to beige with sometimes fine rays of a darker coloration.
