Habitat: In coral reefs and artificial substrate in town. Distribution: Throughout the Caribbean, Bermudas and Brazilian coast. Depth: 0.5 m Characteristics: This colonial species is cushion-like and the zooids form usually circular arrangement around a common cloacal opening. There are 4 rows of stigmata on the pharynx with parastigmata vessels across each row. The abdomen is posterior to the pharynx and the stomach is smooth. No spicules are present. Embryos (2-4) are brooded in a thoracic pouch. The larvae present a triangular arrangement of the adhesive papillae.
