Habitat: Mangrove forests Distribution: Isla Escudo de Veraguas, Bocas del Toro, Panama Natural History Notes: This species is endemic to Isla Escudo de Veraguas, Bocas del Toro province on the Caribbean coast of Panama. It was discovered in 2001, and is listed as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List. Characteristics: The Pygmy Three-toed Sloth has coarse, gray-brown fur, with black and white band-like markings by the forehead and eyes. It is almost identical to its close relative, the Brown-throated Three-toed Sloth, Bradypus variegatus, except for size. Pygmy Three-toed sloths are about 20% smaller than B. variegatus.
