Habitat: This Tanager species will favor clearings, second-growth woodlandand forest borders habitats, in the lowlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from southeastern Mexico to western Ecuador. Natural History Notes: The Golden-hooded Tanager, like most tanagers, is found in small groups, and sometimes part of a bigger group of frugivorous bird species. Its diet consists of fruits and insects. You may hear its call, composed of a series of repeated notes like "tsit-tsit-tsit-tsit" often heard when the bird leaves a tree. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 12.7 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird is characterized by a beautiful golden beige coloration of the head and by the black mask around the eyes, bordered by a blue coloration. Then, the wings and the tail are black, but we can see that the wings are edged blue. The lower back, as well as the rump, the sides of the body and the flanks, are all turquoise green. The chest and the breast are black and the belly is white.
