Habitat: This Tanager species can be found in clearings, second-growth woodland and forest borders habitats in the lowlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica to northern Colombia. Natural History Notes: The Plain-coloured Tanager is almost always found in small groups and will be found foraging for fruits and insects on Cecropia trees. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 12 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a short black bill. The plumage is mostly dull dark gray on the above, with some black coloration around the eyes. The wings and the tail are black with a some dark blue coloration on the wing-coverts. The part below is paler gray, becoming whitish on the belly. The birds that have been reported from Bocas del Toro (rava) have in addition some pinkish-beige coloration on the lower underparts.
