Habitat: The Purple-throated fruitcrow will usually prefer humid forests and second-growth woodland habitats in the lowlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica to northern Bolivia and Amazonian Brazil. Natural History Notes: This fruitcrow species is fairly noisy and is usually found in groups of the same species or of other species such as toucans and nunbirds. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: The size of this species varies between sexes. The male has a total length of 11.5 inches, whereas the female has a total length of 10.5 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). The male is characterized by a whole black plumage with a contrasting red-purple throat. The female does not have the red throat. Both sexes have large wings and a rather short tail.
