Habitat: The Bronzed Cowbird can be found in semiopen areas, agricultural areas and around towns in the lowlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from southwestern United States to central Panama; northern Colombia. Natural History Notes: This Cowbird can be seen feeding on the ground and will be surrounded by other bird species. This bird is a brood parasite, laying its eggs on the nests of other bird species and when the eggs hatch, the host parents will feed the cowbirds as if they were their own. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length varies between 8 inches and 8.5 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a black bill in a cone shape and is characterized by a red iris. The male has a glossy black plumage on the above with some green and bronze coloration. The female looks similar but has a duller and blacker coloration.
