Habitat: The species can be found in lower growth and borders of humid forests and second-growth woodland. Distribution: Species reported from Honduras to western Venezuela and Bolivia. Natural History Notes: This species is usually found singly and like to feed on small flowering trees on the edges of a forest. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length of 7.62 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). The beak of this hummingbird is straight and fairly small, with a length of 1.27 cm. The male contrasts from other hummingbird species, with the complete head and throat violet-blue, with white spots behind the eye. Otherwise, the rest of the part above is green and the below part is grayish with some green spots on the breast. The tail is green with a whitish tip. The female is similar but it has only a forecrown blue a below pale gray and some green on the side.
