Bocas Species Database Habitat: This Greenlet species will favor lower-growth of humid forests and second-growth woodland habitats, in the lowlands and foothills. Distribution: This species has been reported from southeastern Mexico to northern Bolivia and Amazonian Brazil. Natural History Notes: The Tawny-crowned Greenlet likes to forage at low and middle tree levels, along with other insectivorous bird species. Its call differs from other greenlets, by using a more nasal note that sounds like "nya, nya". Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 11.4 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has broad, flat, beige bill and a pale gray iris. It is characterized by a tawny orange crown on top of the head, with a yellower coloration on the forehead. Then, the upperparts are olive brown with the wings and the tail browner. The throat is pale gray and the breast is pale olive with some beige tones, and becoming yellower on the belly. The birds reported from Bocas del Toro have a browner plumage above and a more beige coloration on the breast. |
