Polyp: The life cycle of this species does not include a polyp stage. Medusa: Umbrella hemispherical with well-developed velum. Manubrium small, situated on elongated, tapering peduncle of varying shape and length (from one to three times umbrella height). Mouth with four simple or slightly crenulated lips. Four large hollow perradial marginal tentacles with numerous nematocyst rings; four solid interradial marginal tentacles with adaxial nematocyst clusters. One perradial statocyst beneath the base of each perradial marginal tentacle. Remarks: Extremely variable species. A thorough revision of the genus may reveal a higher diversity at the species level than previously thought. All medusae collected in Bocas del Toro were small juvenile individuals. Ecology and Distribution: Common and widely distributed in warm regions. In Bocas del Toro collected off San Cristobal.
