Habitat: This Antbird species lives in undergrowth of humid forests in the lowlands and foothills. Distribution: This species has been reported from Honduras to northern Peru and northern Brazil. Natural History Notes: If you see army ants in the forest, chances are that you will see the Bicolored Antbird, since it is a perseverant army ant follower. The most frequent call consists of a whining "chrrrr" given at repetitions. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 7.5 inches and 7.75 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a straight black bill. The plumage on the above is chestnut brown with black cheeks and a gray-blue bare skin around the eye. We can also distinguish a gray band that starts above the eye and extends toward the neck. Then, the part below is white with brown flanks and sides of the body. The birds reported from Chiriqui and Bocas del Toro (olivascens) do not have the gray band above the eye and on the neck.
