Habitat: This small Euphonia can be found forest borders and adjacent clearings of humid forests. You will find it only in the western part of Panama (Bocas del Toro) on the Caribbean slope. Distribution: This species has been reported from southeastern Mexico to Caribbean western Panama. Natural History Notes: The Olive-backed Euphonia will be found in small groups, or mixed with other bird species. Its diet mainly consists of small fruits.The call of this bird consists of a metallic "chrrr-chrrr", and the song is mixture of the call with clear or nasal whistles. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 10 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). The plumage of the male consists of a dark olive coloration on the above and a yellow forecrown (front part of the head). The under tail-coverts is orange. On the other hand, the female looks similar but the coloration above is less glossy and the forehead is chestnut instead of yellow. The part below is yellow-green with also the orange coloration under the tail-coverts.
