Habitat: The Rufous woodcreeper will favor forests and foothills in the lowlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from southeastern Mexico to northern Colombia and northwestern Venezuela. Natural History Notes: This woodcreeper species will maintly feed on army ants. It apparently avoids human-altered habitat and secondary forest whenever possible. It is thus a useful bioindicator. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 7.5 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a light brown straight bill with the tip black. The plumage is all deep rufous red, with a lighter coloration on the top of the head and the wing-coverts. The part below looks a little paler.
