Habitat: This Tinamou species can be commonly found in forest borders, second-growth woodland, over-grown clearings and scrubby areas in the lowlands and foothills. Distribution: This species has been reported from southern Mexico to northern Bolivia and southern Brazil. Natural History Notes: The Little Tinamou is the smallest tinamou species reported from Panama. This bird is very fast and you will rarely have a chance to see it, but will rather hear it. It is a terrestrial bird that eats seeds, berries and some insects. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). This is a resident species. Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 22.9 cm and 24.1 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a dark iris and a pointed pale brown bill. The plumage is all brown, with a more rufous coloration on the rump and on the tail. We can also see some white on the throat and some gray on the chest. The female has a brighter plumage especially on the part below.
