Habitat: This Spinetail species will favor forest borders. It can be only found in the highlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica to western Ecuador. Natural History Notes: This bird is usually found foraging alone , but also be observed in groups with other bird species. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length of 14 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird is characterized by the front half of the face that has a rich rufous red coloration. Then, most of the upperparts are olive green, except for the wings that are rufous colored and the tail that is also rufous. The underparts are also olive but paler. We can see that the tail is fairly long and graduated. The immature bird looks similar but only the sides of th head are rufous red.
