Habitat: This cotinga species can be found in lowland forests. Distribution: This species has been reported from southeastern Mexico to eastern Costa Rica. There is one recent of that species in the region of Bocas del Toro, in western Panama. Natural History Notes: The Lovely cotinga is very similar to the Blue cotinga species. If those two species occur together, it is very hard to distinguish them. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length of 7.5 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). The male bird has a blue plumage on the above with a large purple-black patch on the throat as well as a large purple patch on the breast. The wings and the tail are black with the edges blue colored, especially on the upper tail-coverts. The female has a dark brown coloration on the above and a light brown coloration on the part below. We can also distinguish beige spots scattered on the part below.
