Habitat: This Pewee species is commonly observed in shrubby areas and overgrown pastures with scattered trees, in the lowlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from southeastern Mexico to northern Argentina and southern Brazil. Natural History Notes: The Tropical Pewee likes to perch on branches. They will leave the branch to sally forth and catch insects; to then come back to the same branch, perched on the same spot. The call consists of a rapid "sreerrip" sound that includes variations. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 14 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This chubby bird has a grayish olive coloration above with whitish lores. The wings and the tail are dark gray and we can see that the wings have pale gray wing-bars. The throat is whitish and the breast and the flanks are more olive gray. The mid-belly has a gradient coloration from whitish to pale yellow.
