Habitat: This dove species can be easily found in forest borders, second growth woodland and shrubby clearings. Distribution: This species has been reported from eastern Mexico to Bolivia, northern Argentina and southern Brazil. Natural History Notes: Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 8 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). Perched on a branch, this bird species can be easily distinguished, with its blue-gray plumage with a paler coloration on the head. The wings are gray but spotted with black and the outer feathers are black. The female has a brown coloration on the above and a bluer brown coloration on the part below. The throat and the belly are whiter. The wings show brown spots and two bands of a chestnut coloration across the secondaries secondaries (line of wing feathers closest to the body). The tail has a rufous coloration and the outer tail feathers are black.
