Habitat: This species is very hard to see, but you may more chances to find it in montane forest and forest borders in highlands of Bocas del Toro. Distribution: The Black guan has a small range: it has been reported from Costa Rica to western Panama. Natural History Notes: This species is usually found in pairs and usually in trees. THey might be observed going sown on the ground to east fallen trees. The population has been decreasing due to hunting pressure and forest destruction. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Near Threatened (NT). Characteristics: This rare has a total length between 21 inches and 23 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). The first thing that catch our attention is the iris that is bright red. Then, we can see that the naked skin in front of the eyes and on the sides of the face are blue. The legs are pale red. The plumage coloration is completely black. The immature bird will have the breast and belly more brownish.
