Habitat: This species can be found in open areas and streams. Distribution: The species has been reported from Nicaragua, Colombia, Brazil and the eastern Paraguay. In Panama, this species has been reported only in the western part of Bocas del Toro. Natural History Notes: Like all swifts, Gray-rumpeds are insectivorous, catching insects in their gaping mouths while flying rapidly. They generally fly over forest, but will also come lower over clearings and rivers. Their call is a fast twittering, similar to other Chaetura swifts. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 10.80 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). The coloration pattern consists of a glossy black above with a contrasting gray triangular patch on the rump and on the upper tail-coverts. The tail is long and black and the throat is gray colored. Notes: Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species.
