Habitat: This species can be found in clearings and second-growth woodland. Distribution: Species reported from Central Mexico to central Argentina and Uruguay. Natural History Notes: Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 14 inches and 16 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). The part above is grayish, as well as the throat and the chest. the breast and the belly are stripped gray and rufous. The tail has a band pattern of rufous dark gray. In flight, it is easier to distinguish the rufous patch on the primaries (line of wing feathers furthest to the body). The birds that are reported in Bocas del Toro have a more pale gray tail and not so red.
