Habitat: The Black-stripped sparrow will favor shrubby clearings, woodland borders and thickets habitats. Distribution: This species has been reported from Honduras to Venezuela, extreme northern Brazil, and western Ecuador. Natural History Notes: This sparrow species can be usually found alone or in pairs. Its diet is mainly composed of insects, spiders and seeds. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 7 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird can be recognized by its gray head and by the black line that passes through the eyes and down on the cheeks. The plumage on the above is olive green with a yellow gradient on the wings. The part below is mostly gray with a whiter coloration on the throat and on the center of the belly. The race found on the mainland of Panama is c. striaticeps.
