Habitat: This species can be found in second-growth woodland and forest borders. Distribution: Species reported from Southern Costa Rica to northern Argentina and southeastern Brazil. Natural History Notes: This bird species is strictly nocturnal. During breeding season, the males usually call, perched on a branch inside woodland. You will probably hear them but you will have a hard time to see them. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species is 25.40 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). The above part is “rufous-brown” colored and spotted beige and black. The below part of the body is pale brown with blackish bands and the throat is white. There is no wing band. The tail is orange-brown colored with black dots.
