Adult: Species description based on Myers and Lynch 1997. A small, fat-bodied frog. Females to 40 mm, males to 30 mm. Dorsal: Dorsal coloration is brown. The dorsal surface is covered in small bumps. A prominent H-shaped ridge may be present on the upper part of the dorsum. The legs are barred with darker brown or black. Ventral: The ventral coloration ranges from white to orange, with a grayish wash. Concealed surfaces: The groin have rear surfaces of the thigh are pale white or pink with black spots or blotches. Eye: The iris is blue. Extremities: The hands and feet lack webbing.
Habitat: Montane forest from 1450 to 1630 m. Ecology: Found in the leaf litter of oak-dominated mid to high elevation forest (Myers and Lynch 1997). Behavior and communication: Strabomantis laticorpus inflates its body when threatened or frightened (Myers and Lynch 1997). Type locality: montane forest on southwest sector of Cerro Tacarcuna massif, 1590 m elevation, Darién Province, Republic of Panama. Approximately 8° 10′ N, 77° 40′ W.
