Adult: Species description based on Ibanez et al (1999). A medium-sized treefrog (males to 35 mm, females to 41 mm). Dorsal: The dorsal surface is generally olive brown or orangey-brown. Some lighter spots or flecks may be present. The sides are cream-colored, with some dark specks. Ventral: The ventral surface is yellow. Concealed surfaces: The rear surfaces of the thighs are yellow, with dark brown irregular markings. Eye: The eye is bronzy, with black reticulations.
Breeding season: Scinax ruber breeds during the rainy season (Ibanez et al 1999). Males call from temporary and permanent bodies of water after large rainstorms (Ibanez et al 1999).
Habitat: From lowland to montane forest (up to 2600m). Call: A series of low or sometimes higher-pitched notes (Ibanez et al 1999). Scinax ruber also produces a chuckle call (Ibanez et al 1999). Type locality: America
