Adult: Species description based on Savage (2002). A medium-sized salamander with a long tail (to 175 mm total length). The head is broad and the snout is slightly rounded. Dorsal: The dorsal surface is grey-black. A light spot may be present on the head. Ventral: The ventral surface is grey-black. Concealed surfaces: Light spots may be present where the limbs meet the body. Number_of_costal_grooves: This species has 19-20 costal grooves. Eye: The eye is very small. Extremities: The limbs are short and the hands and feet are very small.
Habitat: Lowland and premontane forest to 1200 m. Ecology: Commonly encountered in leaf litter (Savage 2002). Type locality: two miles east of San Isidro El General, C. R., at an elevation of approximately 2118 feet (Costa Rica)
