Adult: Species description based on Savage (2002). A large salamander with a narrow head and rounded snout. Adults reach lengths of 211 mm, including the tail. Dorsal: The dorsal surface is dark brown, bordered on both sides by a narrow light stripe. Dorsal coloration darkens to black on tail. Ventral: The ventral surface is black. Number_of_costal_grooves: This species has 19-20 costal grooves. Eye: The eyes are very small and dark brown. Extremities: The limbs are short and the hands and feet are small.
Habitat: Lower montane forest between 1810-1950 m. Ecology: Often encountered under rotting logs or at the base of trees (Savage 2002). Type locality: northern slopes of Cerro Pando, between 1810 and 1930 meters elevation (5937-6330 feet), Provincia de Bocas del Toro, extreme western Panamá near the border with Costa Rica
