Adult: Species description based on Savage (2002). A medium-sized salamander with a rather short, rounded snout (to 140 mm total length). Males and females are similarly-sized. The tail can be rather long in some individuals. Dorsal: The dorsal coloration is grey-black. Ventral: The ventral surface is dark grey. Number_of_costal_grooves: This species has 19-20 costal grooves. Eye: The eyes are rather large in this species. Extremities: The extremeties are short, and the hands and feet are very small.
Habitat: Lowland forest to 600 m. Ecology: Commonly found under logs, at the based of trees or under moss on tree trunks (Savage 2002). Type locality: Los Diamantes (1 mile south of Guápiles), Costa Rica
