Habitat: Marine. Reef-associated. Found in small groups over coral and rocky reefs and drop-offs. Spread out over the flats to feed at night. Natural History Notes: Adults feed on crustaceans, bivalves, and occasionally on small fishes. Youngs, which are often found in Thalassia beds, feed primarily on the animals of the plankton within a few feets of the bottom. Depth: 0 - 30m Characteristics: Alternating blue and yellow stripes on the head and body. These stripes increase in number and the yellow ones decrease proportionally in width with increased size of the fish. Stripe under eye with distinctive arch. The basal two-thirds of the soft dorsal and caudal fins usually dusky, often black.
