Habitat: This Kingbird species may arrive as a flocks of hundred of birds in open areas and forest canopy, in the lowlands. Distribution: This species is migratory. It breeds east of the Rockies in North America and migrate south to the western Amazon basin of South America and possibly to northern Costa Rica. Natural History Notes: The Eastern Kingbird will be observed during migration in large flocks of birds and feeding in the canopy on fruits. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 20.3 cm and 22.8 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a broad, flat, black bill and the iris black. The plumage above is blackish with a masked orange-red crown patch. Then, the plumage below is all white. The tail has a rounded shape at the tip and the tip is white. The immature bird will have an overall duller plumage and the tail will be less white.
