Adult: Species description based on Dunn (1940). A medium-large frog. Males and females reach lengths of at least 45 mm and 61 mm, respectively. Dorsal: The dorsal surface is solid dark brown. The dorsal surface is smooth, except for two prominent warts on the shoulder blades Ventral: The ventral surface is solid dark brown. Concealed surfaces: Rear surfaces of thighs brown, covered in small white spots. Extremities: Feet have very little webbing. Discs at ends of fingers very large, especially in adult females.
Metamorph juvenile: Juveniles are tad or red with black dorsolateral folds (Dunn 1940). Legs are marked with fine, black lines (Dunn 1940). The lateral and ventral surfaces are whitish or yellowish with grey marbling (Dunn 1940). Rear surface of thigh black with yellow spots (Dunn 1940).
Habitat: So few individuals have been encountered that the distribution of C. monnichorum is unknown. Ecology: The specimens that served as descriptive material were taken from rocks or the ground near streams (Dunn 1940). Type locality: Valley of the Velo, Finca Lerida, on the slope of Chiriqui volcano above Boquete, Chiriqui Province (Panama)
