Habitat: This species may be found alonf forest borders, in second-growth woodland and into foothills. Distribution: This species breeds from eastern Mexico to Bolivia, northern Argentina and southern Brazil. The birds present in Middle America will migrate south during winter but their destination is still unknown. Natural History Notes: The Plumbeous kite will be seen flying at high altitudes and will prey on flying insects, but also on insects deposited on leaves. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species is 36 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This kite species has a black bill and a dark gray cere. The legs are orange, the wings are black with rufous patches on the primaries and the tail is also black but with two large white bands. The shape of the wings is long and fine and normally pointed.
