Habitat: This species pass by Panama and has been seen flying over the region of Bocas del Toro. Distribution: This kite species breeds in central and southern United States but migrate south in sout-central South America. However, the exact migration route is not well known. Natural History Notes: If you look up in the sky early in the morning, you might seen the Mississippi kite flying in groups at high latitudes. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species is 36 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). The plumage is mostly dark gray above and paler gray on the head and on the part below. The tail is entirely black with no white bands as it is seen in other kite species. The wings show gray patches on the secondaries. The immature bird looks like the adult but shows some bands on the tail.
