Habitat: The Large-footed finch will favor undergrowth of clearings, and forest borders habitats, in higher mountains. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica and western Panama. Within Panama, this species can be found only in the higher mountains of western Chiriqui and Bocas del Toro. Natural History Notes: This bird is usually seen in pair. It will take up its food from the leaf litter and its diet mainly consists, of spiders, insects, seeds and sometimes berries. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 8 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird is characterized by the presence of a crown and also a large stripe extending on the side of the head. The throat is black and the coloration changes slightly toward dark gray on the rest of the head. Otherwise, the plumage coloration is moslty olive green on the above and pale yellow green on the part below. The flanks are darker and with an olive coloration.
