Habitat: The Blue grosbeak will favor open scrubby areas and shrubby clearings with dispersed bushes and trees and mostly in the lowlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from southern United States to northern Costa Rica. The species found in the north will migrate south from Mexico to central Panama and rarely to Colombia and Ecuador. Natural History Notes: This bird is migratory. Its diet consists of insects, seeds, snails and wild fruits. It will usually forage on the ground and in shrubs and trees. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length of 6.75 inches cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This seed-eating bird has a heavy gray bill. The male has a dark blue plumage with some black around the bill and the eyes. The wings and the tail are dark gray with two orange wing bands. The female has a very different coloration pattern. The female has a brown plumage on the above with a bluish gray coloration on the rump. The wings and the tail are dark gray colored and the wings show two orange-beige bands in the middle. The part below is beige brown.
