Habitat: This Tanager species can be found in canopy and humid forest borders, in the lowlands and foothills. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica to eastern Panama. Natural History Notes: The Sulphur-rumped Tanager is usually found in small groups, foraging at middle and high tree levels. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length of 6.25 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a plumage mostly dark gray with a paler coloration on the part below and some yellow on the under tail-coverts. The wings and the tail are black. This bird is characterized by its bright yellow rump and the white patch on the pectorals.
