Habitat: This species will favor gardens, shrubby areas, clearings and forest borders habitats. They are usually found in more humid areas. Distribution: This species has been reported from southeastern Mexico to northern Bolivia, Paraguay, and northeastern Argentina; Caribbean. Natural History Notes: The bananaquit is very active, tame, and really loves sugar. It will feed wherever there are flowers and it has a high, sibilant warbler-like song: " tsee, tsee, tsee, tsee" Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: The total length of this species is 3.75 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This small bird has a slim, short, decurved bill that often has some pink coloration at the base of lower mandible. The plumage is mostly dark green gray on the above, with black crown and a prominent long white band above the eye. There is some yellow on the rump. Finally, the throat is pale gray and the remaining underparts are yellow.
